Lauren Boebert, the Republican Congresswoman from Colorado, has been embroiled in controversy this week after footage of her and a date vaping and engaging in romantically inappropriate behavior went viral. The incident happened during a performance of “Beetlejuice” at a local theater.

The backlash against Boebert was swift, particularly on the left. Many accused her of being a hypocrite as she had previously championed traditional values. In an interview with FOX News host Jesse Watters, Boebert expressed contrition for her actions but pointed out that more pressing issues are facing the nation right now such as an impending government shutdown and Democrats’ radical policies.
She said that although it’s been 20 years since she was last in the dating scene, what happened is still her responsibility to bear as she is a public figure. She added that while it has been taxing on her family, being a mother and grandmother will always remain her priority before anything else.

“It’s been 20 years since I was in the dating scene, and back then there were not infrared cameras watching my every move, but it’s a lesson learned,” Boebert said. “As I said, I’m truly humbled and apologize to my people in Colorado’s 3rd District, those who I love. In my position, it is my responsibility to bring levity to my constituents’ lives, never gravity.”
Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to the story by pointing out what she perceived to be double standards when it came to media coverage of politicians’ leisure activities; noting how there had been wall-to-wall coverage of herself going out for lunch in Florida without wearing a mask yet nothing said about Boebert’s antics in the theater despite them involving sexually lewd acts.
“Ultimately, all future date nights have been canceled,” Rep. Lauren Boebert jokingly told a photographer for TMZ. “And I learned to check party affiliations before you go on a date.” https://t.co/GjRtJdR20J

Boebert recently ended things peacefully with her date who was identified as a bar owner and registered Democrat from Colorado. She concluded by saying people should go ahead with their plans to see “Beetlejuice” and let her know how it ends when they do so – alluding humorously to missing out on seeing its conclusion due to having left early following the incident at hand.
