Donald Trump has a serious issue.
Some of the most prominent donors in the GOP are walking away and refusing to give him any cash.
They want change, and their checkbooks are now closed to Donald Trump.
We Want Change
Private equity CEO Stephen Schwarzman, who donated $3 million to Trump in 2020, is looking elsewhere.
He stated, “It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries.
“America does better when its leaders are rooted in today and tomorrow, not today and yesterday.”
Andy Sabin, who regularly drops six-figure donations, is not interested in Trump at all.
He said he would vote for him if he won, but financially, that is just not happening.
He stated, “I wouldn’t give him a f—ing nickel.”
Sabin continued, “He’s not a good person. He could be helpful but it’s all about him.”
Citadel hedge fund CEO and founder Ken Griffin was a bit nicer, but he is looking at the future of the party, not the past.
He stated, “He did a lot of things really well and missed the mark on some important areas.
“And for a litany of reasons, I think it’s time to move on to the next generation.”
I believe that one reason Trump announced so early was to get his hands on this cash, but there is none to be had.
Unless Trump plans on self-funding again, he better find a way to lure some new big-money donors in or he could be broke before the primary is over.
