The DC City Council was determined to let criminals go free.
They were lowering penalties on some pretty serious crimes, including carjacking.
With Congress about to pass legislation that would strike the bill down, the City Council decided to pull the bill.

The legislation the city council put forth was idiotic, to be quite honest.
All the crimes we are fighting against were among those that they wanted to lower penalties on, such as possession of an illegal firearm and as noted above, carjacking.
It was such as radical plan that the Democrat Mayor of the city vetoed the bill, but the city council had the votes to overturn her veto.
Thankfully, Congress has the final say in DC, and common sense on both sides of the aisle won out.
Joe Biden stunned progressives by announcing that he would not veto the bill.
It caught many in the House by surprise, especially Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
She was actually livid that Biden said he would sign the bill because now all those Democrats are on the record for supporting these ridiculous changes to the DC crime laws.
