A back alley argument between two neighbors turned deadly.
The men were arguing over a man throwing a mattress out in the back alley.
Tempers flared, then shots rang out, and a man was killed, literally over a mattress.
Point It!
The incident originally happened in 2018, but the trial and sentencing just finished.
This was something that either side could have walked away from, but they chose to escalate.
The deceased, Aaron Howard, was allegedly known for a hot temper and at 6’7”, was a rather intimidating figure.
Howard and the Millers, Johnnie (the father) and Michael (the son), were at a standoff in the alley.
Johnnie Miller had a pistol in hand, and his son was armed with a shotgun.
Howard was literally daring them to shoot him, and Miller continuously warned him not to come close to him.
Just prior to the shooting, Howard moves out of the picture, and was allegedly handed a bat by his friend.
As he approached Miller, Miller opened fire, hitting Howard in the forearm, which is when he threw the bat.
Miller then fired two more shots, and his son’s shotgun blast took off the back of Howard’s head…
The Millers turned down a plea bargain, believing they were justified in self-defense.
As it turns out, they made the right move.
Johnnie Miller was found guilty and sentenced to 14 years in prison, 11 less than the plea bargain.
His son was found not guilty.
