There’s a growing new fad in hard core recreation. One that takes a favorite childhood pastime to extreme new airborne heights. You can easily find yourself higher than a a kite, literally. At least, higher off the ground than the tethered kites around you.
Sky high recreation thrills
In China, they found a way to take recreation to extreme new heights. New York Post calls the video “pulse pounding.” That description may be a little excessive but the clip really is cool. It shows an unidentified man “soaring high in the sky while flying a large kite in China.”
They say the one he used has an 11 meter wing span, which would be around 36 feet. The rest of the gear is custom. This looks like it could catch on but it’s definitely as dangerous as it looks.
You might not be dying for cheap thrills but could end up dead dabbling in this new extreme recreation fad. As local onlookers “laugh in astonishment, the unidentified thrill seeker appears to remain calm as he is lifted high above a beach in the city of Tangshan.”
He grabbed quite a bit of air. Reports note that he was spotted “shooting up seemingly close to 100 feet, higher than some of the other kites being flown around him.”
After soaring over the coastline like an eagle for a while, the aviator touches back down, but not for long. Apparently it’s an addictive form of recreation.
As he “appears to take flight at least one more time,” he’s caught “calmly talking back to people laughing and shouting up at him soaring way above the image of the city skyline behind him.”

He meant to do that
As bystanders wondered if that was some sort of freak accident, a friend on the ground, identified only as “Tao” assured the crowd, he “didn’t make a mistake. He did it intentionally.” Everyone was laughing and giggling as “the unidentified thrill-seeker soared high into the sky.” Hasbro now has their eyes on a whole new recreation market.
Hang gliding at a cost affordable to the masses. The sport of hang gliding was a rage in the 70s but never caught on because the danger of smacking into a cliff, tree or cactus was rather high. This new sport has a similar challenge, going up is the easy part. Landing an entirely different story.
Tao may have been hesitant to give his full name but he owns the shop which sold the special kite. He also sells all the special gear that goes along with it. Everything you need to turn an ordinary, if over-sized, kite into a new form of airborne recreation.

He knew the flier did it intentionally because the string was made of Kevlar and attached to a climber’s safety harness.
His pal in the video isn’t “the only one taking flight with them, which he claimed was not a dangerous hobby.” Tao explained, “the kite string is made of professional Kevlar and we use safety harnesses when playing, so there won’t be any problems. Of course, only professionals dare to play like this.”
In other words, don’t try this dangerous form of recreation at home. Let’s see how long it is before teenagers start soaring over the local golf course.
