If you are a fan of the 1960s and 1970s rock, you cannot help but be a fan of The Band.
The group was only around for a hot minute, but they made an everlasting impression not only on fans but the industry as a whole.
Sadly, Robbie Robertson, founder, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter of the group, passed away this week at the age of 80.
Gone…
His death was confirmed by his longtime manager, who stated, “Robbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, including his wife, Janet, his ex-wife, Dominique, her partner Nicholas, and his children Alexandra, Sebastian, Delphine, and Delphine’s partner Kenny.
“In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Six Nations of the Grand River to support the building of their new cultural center.”
A little fun fact you may not know about Robertson and The Band…
Robertson got started working with Bob Dylan, playing and writing with him.
Robertson started to get more of his guys playing with Dylan, then Dylan got into an accident, which halted his tour.
When Dylan started to play again, Robertson was already booking gigs for what became known as “The Band.”
The Band was only together for about eight years, but they produced some of the most memorable songs in rock from that era.
When The Band broke up, they went out in style.
The last concert was called “The Last Waltz,” which was also turned into a film, and it also happened to feature just about every top performer of the time.
Rest in peace, Robbie… we will never forget you.
