I have to admit, I was never really a fan of Richard Dreyfuss as an actor.
He always seemed a bit whiney to me, but that opinion just changed.
When Dreyfuss was recently asked what he thought about the rules of the Academy, well, let’s just say safe spaces in Hollywood are packed right now.
Makes Me Sick!
Beginning next year, you could make the most epic film of the year, of the decade, or even of the century, and not even be considered for Best Picture.
Imagine having literally the #1 rated individual in every role, setting box office records, and being told you are not even on the nomination list.
Why? Well, that would be because the Oscars have now decided to make a qualifying list.
Just to be considered, your roster of actors and crew must meet certain racial and ethnic group minimum requirements.
When Dreyfuss was asked about his opinion on these new guidelines, this was his answer…
Actor Richard Dreyfuss says Hollywood’s new inclusivity standards make him want to vomit. Good. More actors, directors and producers need to speak up. Not all great stories are diverse. Not all true stories are diverse. Forced diversity hurts everyone.

He added, “And what are we risking?
“Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings?
“You can’t legislate that. And you have to let life be life.”
Hey, people got upset when Bradley Cooper wore a prosthetic nose so he would look more like the Jewish actor he was portraying, but I guess it was also a problem that he was not Jewish.
So, apparently, in Hollywood, talent no longer matters, but that checklist of diversity sure does.
Should make for some interesting award shows that nobody will watch.
