Jack Smith, Special Counsel to the Southern District of Florida, has recently become the subject of scrutiny from Judge Aileen Cannon.
On Thursday, Judge Cannon invalidated two of Smith’s sealed court filings and demanded an explanation for his investigation into the case.
Judge Cannon made it clear that she was not satisfied with the legal or factual basis for the sealing motion and supplement documents presented by Jack Smith.
She then denied a motion presented by prosecutors and requested a response from them addressing, “the legal propriety of using an out-of-district grand jury proceeding to continue to investigate and/or to seek post-indictment hearings on matters pertinent to the instant indicted matter in this district”.
This response must be submitted no later than August 22nd.
Republican Representative Matt Gaetz has taken action against Jack Smith following his filing of charges against President Trump regarding alleged attempts at overturning the 2020 election leading up to January 6th 2021 attack on US Capitol building.
Gaetz is calling for Smith to present himself before a congressional committee within 15 days as well as proposing criminal contempt legislation if he chooses not to comply with subpoena or provide testimony.
Gaetz is also trying use congressional immunities to protect Donald Trump while attempting to expose Hunter and Joe Biden’s international influence peddling activities which were recently exposed through former business partner Devon Archer’s statement suggesting Joe Biden was responsible for closing deals under their name.
Gaetz introduced legislation last month in order defund Jack Smith’s witch hunt against President Trump claiming that it is all part of a distraction from very real crimes committed by Hunter and Joe Biden.
He believes that Congress should take immediate action to enforce contempt if Attorney General Merrick Garland does act on these actions or else face impeachment proceedings himself.
