According to reports, a 10-year-old boy has been arrested and charged as an adult after he shot and killed his mother.
The incident occurred on November 21, when 44-year-old mother Quiana Mann was killed by her son allegedly in a dispute over a virtual reality headset.
This case is incredibly tragic, but what makes the situation worse is that children as young as 10 charged with serious crimes must be charged as adults in the state of Wisconsin.
NBC News reported that the 10-year-old, whose name remains withheld, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide and if convicted, could face up to 60 years in prison for this crime.
Apparently just one day after the murder, the boy purchased the VR headset using his mother’s Amazon account, which costs anywhere between $130 to $500.
He later told his grandmother he was “sorry” for shooting and killing his mother, however his main priority was wanting to know where his Amazon package was.
Initially, the child told police that he had shot his mother by accident, however relatives contacted police with concerns about whether he was telling the truth.
According to the complaint, he allegedly later told his aunt he had “actually [been] aiming the gun at his mother.”
Family members revealed that the child has experienced “rage issues” all his life and began his aggressive behaviors at the age of 4.
Investigators were also told that the boy “has five different imaginary people that talk to him.”
Not long before Mann’s death, the boy’s therapist had given him a “concerning diagnosis,” which caused the mother to place cameras throughout the home.
Unfortunately, someone unplugged the cameras before the shooting.
The child’s grandmother stated:
“He’s always said that he hears voices. We tried helping her with him. All of us, everybody that knows her, even her church people. We all tried helping her with him because we knew he had a mental illness.”
