In December 2021, Lori McClintock, the 61-year-old wife of Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) passed away.

We knew that, but we were never given the cause of death.

If the coroner’s report is accurate, she died from white mulberry leaf, more than likely being taken as a diet supplement.

Disturbing

White mulberry leaf is native to China and is a natural supplement, with one of its more associated uses being as a diet aid.

Rep. McClintock stated at the time of his wife’s death that she was dieting.

The report stated that a partially digested leaf was found in her stomach, but it did not confirm the source of the leaf, meaning if it was tea leaves, eaten whole, or in a supplement.

Kaiser Health News reported that the leaf inflamed her stomach and intestines.

The cause of death was listed as dehydration due to gastroenteritis, brought on by the “adverse effects of white mulberry leaf ingestion.”

Her death was ruled an accident by the coroner.

Daniel Fabricant, CEO and president of the Natural Products Association who oversaw dietary supplements at the FDA during the Obama administration, immediately pushed back on the Kaiser Health report, calling it “completely speculative.”

He stated, “There’s a science to this.

“It’s not just what a coroner feels.

“People, unfortunately, pass from dehydration every day, and there’s a lot of different reasons and a lot of different causes.”
