ICYMI – Texas Governor Greg Abbott was forced to take some rather drastic measures.
With crime in Austin running rampant and the city unable to fill its police roster, Abbott had no choice but to step in.
So, he ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to start to patrol Austin.
Defund the Police
It is rather shocking that the capital city of Texas has a defund the police movement, but it is true.
Austin has become saturated with radical liberals that are pushing a far-left agenda.
City Council members actually celebrated when they removed police funding, but now morale and recruitment are so low, they cannot even man minimal staffing requirements.
The city has become a cesspool, rampant with crime and being overrun by homeless.
The last mayor, Steve Adler, ran that city into the ground, but new mayor, Kirk Watson, who served a term as mayor two decades ago, is welcoming the change.
He stated, “During my run for mayor, I promised we would make city government work better in providing basic services.
“This is an example of that. It’s a common-sense, practical response to a serious need and arose out of a positive working relationship between the Capital City and the Capitol of Texas.”
City Council Member Mackenzie Kelly also appreciated the help of the Governor.
She stated, “I’m looking forward to the collaboration between the City of Austin and the Texas Department of Public Safety, which is a step towards enhancing law enforcement presence on our streets.
“Thanks to the Mayor, Governor, and Lt. Governor for their collaborative work during a low staffing period.
“I will continue working with the Mayor’s office and the City Council to strengthen public safety in Austin.”
It would appear that there is hope for Austin yet.
