This is the time of the year that you may start to see centipedes start to randomly pop up around the home.
Now, if you are like me, you probably grab a piece of paper towel and smash them to bits.
Well, I just found out that is exactly what you are NOT supposed to do when you see one.
Leave Them Be
Believe it or not, while they are gross as hell and even creepier to see, centipedes can be good for the home.
They are natural-born killers and can help keep your home bug-free, except for the centipede, of course.
As you probably know, they are lightning-fast, which enables them to get the upper hand on other bugs.
Centipedes love to feast on other bugs, such as ants, spiders, bedbugs, cockroaches, and silverfish.
The latter shares the same environmental preferences as the centipede, and killing even one can lead you to a house full of silverfish before you know it.
This, of course, does not mean that you should allow your home to turn into a playground for these nasty-looking creatures.
If you can outwit the centipede and trap it, let it go outside to do its killing outdoors before all those bugs find their way into your home.
Unlike some of the centipedes found in the wild, especially in the desert, the centipedes are you are likely to find in your home are not dangerous.
Now if you find one like this, run for the hills…
Otherwise, let the little guy do its job.
