Reddit is going crazy over the debate of what is appropriate attire for a wedding. It all started when a photo of a wedding guest wearing a deeply revealing dress made its way onto the social media site. As always people couldn’t help but let their thoughts be known over the poor taste of the woman who stole the spotlight from the bride.

Most conservatives understand the importance of modesty, traditional values, and respect during these special occasions. But the over-sexualized world would tempt and torture insecure women into exposing more than they realize.

To many, this may not be an issue. So what, so would think over the woman’s daring low-cut dress that showed off more than just her cleavage while standing right next to the bride?

The photo was posted on the r/trashy Reddit forum with a snarky caption: “When you just have to steal the spotlight.” Some commentators were quick to criticize the woman’s choice of attire, while others defended her, claiming she shouldn’t be ashamed of her anatomy.

However, what does this debate really mean? Are we losing sight of good manners and the respect attract that good style can give a woman? What does this say about how we should treat women and not objectify them?

Redditors had a lot to say about the subject. Some pointed out that a woman with a smaller bust wouldn’t have gotten the same reaction. Others accused those criticizing the woman of being misogynistic and body shaming.

It’s important for those with a conservative, and modesty standpoint to be respectful and understanding of the challenges women face in society today. We are constantly bombarded with contradictory views on our sexuality and how we show it off.

An example of societal hypocrisy would be the fact that if the woman’s boyfriend picked the dress out for her then he is the bad guy for objectifying her, but if she chose the dress then she is a hero flaunting her femininity and sexuality in the face of misogyny. Either way, the woman is exposed and belittled for the way she dresses whether it was her or a man’s choice.

We forget as women that when we objectify ourselves we are still objectified. Sounds like an oxy-moron but it’s true. You do not have to go to the extremes of Amish modesty to tailor clothes to fit your body and that showcases your feminity without exposing the sacredness of your body to the world.
