After Learning This School Counselor’s Dark Past, These Parents Are FURIOUS

The Fairfax County school district (FCPS) reportedly waited up to a year before firing a counselor whom they had learned was arrested for soliciting an underage prostitute.

This is the same inept school system that is infamous for its woke rules and numerous disagreements with parents over teaching students critical theory.

50-year-old Darren Thornton was arrested in November 2020 during an undercover operation.

At the time, he had been working as a school counselor for Fairfax County Public Schools and previously had worked for Hanover County schools.

According to authorities, Thornton had a conversation with a covert officer to arrange a meeting for sex.

The chat transcripts read that the officer informed Thornton she was 17 and he still consented to meet with her.

That’s when Thornton was greeted by police.

Following the incident, Thornton was required to register as a sex offender with the Virginia State Police.

And then again in June 2022, Thornton was caught in another online chat room under suspicion of soliciting prostitutes and frequently visiting lewd establishments.

Under state law, anyone that has been charged with a felony that is a member of school staff must be reported to the school superintendent by the arresting agency.

The Fairfax school system was informed about both of Thornton’s arrests, however he was still working for the school division when reached by The Times-Dispatch.

And obviously, parents are not happy.

Although Parents received a letter from Superintendent Reid outlining the “immediate action” that was taken to dismiss Thornton, “I will take whatever further correction actions are required to prevent this from happening again,” Reid said.

Sue Zoldak, a member of the advocacy organization Do Better FCPS, claims that the group is extremely dissatisfied, “It is astounding and once again disappointing that FCPS had demonstrated that the front office, as well as the school-level leadership, do not have a solid procedure for vetting staff and faculty.”
