As things stand right now, Trump is the overwhelming favorite to win the GOP nomination.
That situation will not change unless this race gets down to a head-to-head race between Trump and DeSantis.
Even though no candidate other than DeSantis is polling at better than five or six percent, collectively, they are taking votes away from DeSantis, so he has no shot right now.
The primary, however, is not Trump’s problem.
Sticking Around
The question is and has always been if Trump can win the general election.
Trump will never lose the support of his die-hard supporters; that has never been in question.
But can Trump lure in independent voters, conservatives, and moderates he turned off during his first term?
He has seemingly made some headway in that area solely based on how bad Biden has been as a president, but it is not enough, and recent polling shows it.
The latest Quinnipiac University poll for PA has Trump barely ahead of Biden at 47-46, way too close for comfort.
This is a key state that will play a major role in whether Biden gets booted from the White House.
Biden beat Trump in six key swing states, and Trump needs to get them all back if he hopes to win this election.
In terms of the primary, Trump has a commanding 49 to 25 percent lead over DeSantis, with the rest of the field feasting on the crumbs.
#PresidentBiden vs. #DonaldTrump: toss up in #Pennsylvania, Trump leads GOP primary; voters give Gov #JoshShapiro high marks, especially on I-95 handling https://t.co/PE3vOsFty7

Another poll that I saw will give some pause for concern for Trump as well.
The Marquette University Law School Poll for Wisconsin has Trump almost even with DeSantis, leading 31-30.
These state polls are what I want to start to see more of because they are far more telling than the national polls right now.
But again, unless this field gets down to only Trump and DeSantis, Trump can sit in his hot tub and drink some sparkling cider during the primary season because nobody will be able to touch him.
