It’s a topic that has been on the minds of voters everywhere: President Joe Biden’s age. As the 2024 presidential election draws ever near, more and more people are questioning whether Biden is too old too run. In fact, let’s consider how Biden will be 82 years old once the next inauguration day hits…making him the oldest president ever elected.

New York Times opinion columnist Ross Douthat raised concerns around President Joe Biden’s age.

In it, Douthat argued that while “Biden’s defenders are correct that the effect of his age on his presidency has been, at most, only mildly negative” there is an increasing risk of former President Donald Trump being re-elected in 2024 if Democrats continue to back Biden as their candidate.

This sentiment was echoed by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius who wrote: “while Biden ‘has been a successful and effective president,’ it still would be a mistake for him to run for re-election in 2024.”

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough also claimed that “everybody” he and co-host Mika Brzezinski talk to say of Biden: “Man, he’s too old to run.”

But not everyone agrees with these sentiments; many Democratic columnists argue that those questioning Biden’s age are making unfounded assumptions and should instead focus on other issues facing the country right now.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not directly answer questions about whether Harris is the best running mate for Biden but quietly admitted there isn’t much power associated with the position anyway.

Meanwhile multiple liberal columnists have urged Democrats to look into other options besides Harris as a running mate in case they want any chance at winning back control of the White House come 2024.

It remains unclear what impact Biden’s advanced age will have on his ability to remain competitive during reelection season, but in light of these recent developments however, it may be wise for Democrats strategize now about how they intend to handle this potential roadblock before it’s too late.
