Its been discovered that Labor Secretary Marty Walsh was covering for a top official who has recently been convicted for the rape of six children. Walsh had been protecting records that divulged how the Boston police union were fully aware of this top official’s sexual crimes.

The official, Patrick Rose, was convicted on 21 counts of sexual assault of a minor; the hand-down of this punishment highlighted Walsh blocking records revealing how the city’s police department were aware of Rose’s sexual crimes for numerous decades. These records, released by Walsh’s successor, have had an incredibly damaging consequence to the city’s police union, which was run by Rose during Walsh’s time as mayor.

The Boston Globe had requested the records of a 1995 investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Rose following his arrest in 2020, which Walsh denied due to claims of not being able to provide records with the victim’s name. Well now the records have been released, with the victim’s name concealed, and reveal how Rose is responsible for the sexual assault of the then-12-year-old boy.

Patrick Semmens, vice president of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, stated that a more through investigation is needed to figure out who was aware of Rose’s sick behaviors and the purpose behind Walsh keeping the records protected.

“It certainly calls further into question Marty Walsh’s ability to oversee union transparency which he is now in charge of at the Department of Labor,” Semmens told the Washington Free Beacon.

The Department of Labor has not responded to the request for a comment on the incident.

Shockingly, it appears that Walsh has covered for other abusers within the Boston Police Department, specifically noting domestic abuse allegations against former police commissioner Dennis White. Only when the Globe reported on the accusations did Walsh suspend White and when the news outlet requested additional police records into the allegations, Walsh quickly denied it.

The records on Rose have revealed that the union made attempts to return him to standard officer duties after the investigation into the assault and even considered filing a grievance on his behalf. Rose continued to work for the next two decades, moving up the ranks to the president of the police union from 2014-2017, until he retired in 2018.

Rose pleaded guilty to 21 counts of child rape and sexual assault and was sentenced to 10-13 years in prison in addition to 10 years of probation. Prosecutors stated that most of the crimes stem back to the 1990s, in fact the original 1995 charges were dropped after Rose had intimidated the victim.

The Globe reported Rose’s position as an officer kept him in direct contact with vulnerable children, including a 14-year-old girl with special needs whom Rose raped in the midst of driving her home.
