The CDC was lying to us during the pandemic.
It turns out, the agency was exaggerating study results in terms of how effective different masks were.
They Lied
I did several reports on this in real-time, having found out how ineffective most mask types being used at the time were against spreading COVID.
In September 2020, during the Trump administration, then-CDC Director Robert Redfield said masks were even more effective than a vaccine would be in terms of stopping transmission.
The report on the subject tells a far different story, stating, “Two RCTs [randomized controlled trials] were conducted during the pandemic, one in Denmark and one in Bangladesh.
“The first found no protective effect, while the second found that symptoms consistent with COVID-19 were about 11 percent less common in the masked group.
“The latter finding was far less impressive than the results from the observational study that the CDC touted in February 2022.
“In that study, the CDC reported, surgical masks similar to the ones used in the Bangladesh RCT reduced the risk of infection by 66 percent.
“Even cloth masks, which the CDC has conceded are the least effective kind, supposedly reduced infections by 56 percent.”
So, I guess Donald Trump has some explaining to do.
