A mass shooting situation has been reported in Washington, D.C. in the 2200 block of Alabama Avenue. According to police, at least five people were shot during the incident.

The shooting, which occurred at around 8:30 a.m., left five people injured, including two men, two women, and a 13 year old boy.

Authorities initially reported that all of the victims appear to have non-life-threatening injuries. One of the adult men and the 13 year old boy both walked into the hospital with their injuries. Reports later emerged that at least one of the victims was in critical condition.

According to reporting from WUSA 9, “Two women were shot in the lower body, a man was also shot in the lower body, another man was shot in the upper torso and is in critical condition and a 13-year-old boy was shot and driven to the hospital. The victims are all said to be conscious and breathing.”

Washington, D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee spoke with reporters at the scene of the shooting.

“It’s unacceptable in the District of Columbia for somebody to brazenly shoot into a crowd of people, and five people to be struck at 8:38 a.m. in the morning. That unacceptable. And I’m asking for the community’s help to bring this person to justice,” said Contee.

The police chief also noted that authorities are searching for a male shooter, who is described as wearing a black hoodie, grey sneakers, and blue jeans. Officials are asking that anyone with information on the shooting contact the police.

“We should all be sick and tired of this,” Contee said.

Like most Democrat-run cities, Washington, D.C. has been dealing with increased violence in recent months. The night before this mass shooting took place, one person was shot and killed in a parking lot in northeast D.C., and another was shot and killed just three days prior on Benning Road in a separate incident. Police have not yet made arrests in either case.
