Just days after the initial attack by terrorist group Hamas on Saturday, October 7, an Israeli woman was captured arming herself with an M16 assault rifle while out shopping in Sderot. The image was recently posted online and has quickly gone viral.
Hamas fighters have killed over 1,300 people during their incursion into southern Israel, devastating towns and cities across the country as they rampaged through them. They even kidnapped hostages to take back into the Gaza Strip before meeting any military resistance.
The Israeli army has since regained control of the border, but tensions remain high as citizens await further potential incursions from armed assailants inside Gaza or Hezbollah units from Lebanon.

In response to this attack on their sovereignty, thousands of reservists have been called up for mandatory service by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). Most young people in Israel are required to serve two years and eight months in IDF beginning at age 17 – giving them some of world’s highest active military per-capita numbers.
Citizens who have undergone combat training can also apply for private handgun licenses; these must be renewed every three years and allow holders to carry loaded weapons either openly or concealed when necessary.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has intensified firearm issuing measures for licensed citizens amid rising tension between majority Jewish population and minority Palestinian groups. He referred to this operation as “Guardian of Walls 2” which he believes is looming due to recent conflict between IDF and Hamas forces over 11 days in 2021 – setting off violent pro-Palestinian protests among Arab citizens at that time too.
Amidst all these stories of tragedy unfolding out of Israel comes one story about heroism by 25 year old Inbar Lieberman who defended her community at Kibbutz Nir Am during hostilities with terrorists on Saturday morning. She led 12 security team members across strategic positions in settlements around Gaza Strip where 20 terrorists were killed within four hours – five being killed singlehandedly by her efforts alone.
Her actions no doubt saved many lives here but nearby kibbutzim still faced great loss at hands of invading militants as well.
