Many GOP strategists are wondering what Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) was thinking.
Johnson took a bit of a nasty shot at his opponent during a very cordial portion of his final debate.
For his comments, he was hit with a wave of boos.
Bad Timing
Mandela Barnes has nosedived in polls recently.
At one point, he actually had a comfortable lead against Johnson, but now it is Johnson with the 5-point lead.
Toward the end of the debate, candidates were asked what they admired in their opponent.
Barnes replied, “the senator has proven to be a family man, and I think that’s admirable. You know, that’s absolutely to be respected.
“He speaks about his family. [He’s] done a lot to provide for them.
“I absolutely respect that.”
When it was turned over to Johnson, he stated, “I mean, likewise, I appreciate the fact that Lt. Gov. Barnes had loving parents, a school teacher, father who worked third shift.
“So he had a good upbringing.
“I guess what puzzles me about that is with that upbringing, why has he turned against America?”
Then the boos came down, which is the last impression voters will have of Johnson before the head to the polls.
