He Walked Into the Police Station and Went to Open Fire…

An unidentified 33-year-old man was killed after he stepped into the lobby of a Michigan police station and attempted to open fire.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, where the man had just walked inside the Dearborn Police Department.

According to police, the man was seen looking around the lobby before he pulled out a handgun and attempted to fire the weapon at the officer behind the front desk.

Luckily, the weapon – which reportedly was a stolen 9mm handgun – had somehow malfunctioned and did not fire off a shot.

The officer behind the desk was able to draw his weapon and fire “multiple rounds that struck the individual,” before the man was able to fix the malfunction, as stated by Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin.

Despite being immediately rushed to the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries. No officer was injured during the incident.

The police station just re-opened Monday morning after closing following the incident on Sunday.

During a press conference, Shahin stated:

“What I want to make very clear is that I extend my sincerest condolences to the individual who lost his life here. I know there are many questions you’ll have in the coming days, and I hope there are more answers.”

Police are still attempting to identify a motive for the incident, although they claimed that the man had a past history of mental illness.
