Shockwaves have been sent throughout the entire city of Philadelphia as liberal journalist Josh Kruger was shot and killed inside his home on Monday, October 2. Only 39-years-old, his passing is a devastating loss to those who knew him and appreciated his work.

Kruger had a career that spanned journalism, politics, and government which he used to tell compelling stories with insight that could not be matched by anyone else. He wrote for major outlets such as The Philadelphia Inquirer and LGBTQ Nation while also being a vocal advocate for progressive causes.

Mayor Jim Kenney spoke highly of him in a statement saying “His intelligence, creativity, passion, and wit shone bright in everything that he did — and his light was dimmed much too soon”. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Kruger also won multiple awards from several organizations such as the Society of Professional Journalists and Association of Alternative Newsmedia for excellence in journalism.

Philadelphia Police responded to reports of gunshots inside Kruger’s apartment where they found he had been shot seven times through the chest and abdomen before being rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center but pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Even though police declared it a homicide no arrests have been made yet leaving many questions unanswered about what happened.

Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore indicated that there were no signs of forced entry, stating “Either the door was open or the offender knew how to get the door open”.

This indicates someone close may have been involved although nothing has been confirmed yet despite investigations being done by authorities into this tragic incident.

Upon hearing about Josh’s death many paid their respects online including Mayor Jim Kenney who stated “Josh cared deeply about our city and its residents which was evident both in his public service and in his writing”.

Kruger will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched in some way or another during his short time here on earth.
