It is a heartbreaking thing to consider, but the reality is that in many places in the United States, elderly people are not receiving the care and attention they need.
This was tragically highlighted recently in New York City, when an elderly man’s body was found after being left unnoticed for more than 24 hours.
According to a report from the New York Post, a dog walker discovered Patrick Mullins’ body on Sunday evening.
It is believed that he had jumped from the fifth story of a six-story building.
An autopsy determined his death was due to “multiple blunt force injuries”.
The man had last been seen alive on Saturday evening and it appears no one noticed him missing until Sunday afternoon.
Sadly, this situation highlights how little compassion some places have for their elderly residents.
Even more disturbing is the fact that management never informed tenants about the incident nor responded to it in any way – something which tenant Cheryl Bulbach described as “shameful”.
She went on to state how terrible she felt about what happened and wished Mullins “peace and solace” wherever he may be now.
This situation reflects poorly on New York City – particularly given its reputation as being a Democrat stronghold.
It serves as yet another reminder of why we must take better care of our vulnerable elderly populations across America so no one else has to suffer such a tragic fate again.
