Morocco has been absolutely devasted by a massive earthquake.

According to reports, it registered at least a 6.8.

So far, more than 2,800 people have been reported dead, and that number is likely to climb significantly.

Tragedy Strikes

The bad thing for Morocco is that some of the most devasted areas are up in the mountains.

This has made it very difficult for rescue workers to get to the victims.

Monday afternoon, Moroccan officials confirmed that 2,862 people were dead.

Thousands more were injured, and both totals are likely to climb as they get to these more remote areas.

Dozens of countries, including the United States, have offered to send help.

However, Moroccan officials are being rather selective in the aid they are accepting.

So far, only Britain, Spain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have been permitted to offer assistance.

Morocco is “positioned at the juncture of a slow-motion tectonic crash between the African and Eurasian plates.”

The situation is similar in nature to the San Andreas fault, although the shifting in plates is about 10 times worse at the San Andreas fault line.
