Conservatives and Republicans were given reason to celebrate after a recent Supreme Court decision.
The court shot down the idea that affirmative action should be included in the decision for college admissions.
This means the admissions process will be merit-based, as most of us believe it should be.
And Here Come the Dramatics…
As expected, the decision came down along ideological lines, with a 6-3 vote.
The opinion stated, “A benefit to a student who overcame racial discrimination, for example, must be tied to that student’s courage and determination.
“Or a benefit to a student whose heritage or culture motivated him or her to assume a leadership role or attain a particular goal must be tied to that student’s unique ability to contribute to the university.
“In other words, the student must be treated based on his or her experiences as an individual—not on the basis of race.
“Many universities have for too long done just the opposite.
“And in doing so, they have concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the color of their skin. Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice.”
Even though liberals have had several wins recently on the Supreme Court, they once again went back to calling the court extremists and right-wing activists after the decision was handed down.
This included Joe Biden, who said this is not a “normal court.”
Biden stated, “What I meant by that is it has done more to unravel basic rights and basic decisions than any court in recent history. And that’s what I meant by not normal.
“It’s gone out of its way to — for example, take a look at overruling Roe v. Wade.
“Take a look at the decision today. Take a look at how it’s ruled on a number of issues that have been precedent for 50-60 years sometimes. And that’s what I meant by not normal.”
NAACP President Derrick Johnson piled on, stating, “Today the Supreme Court has bowed to the personally held beliefs of an extremist minority.
“We will not allow hate-inspired people in power to turn back the clock and undermine our hard-won victories.
“The tricks of America’s dark past will not be tolerated.
“Let me be clear – affirmative action exists because we cannot rely on colleges, universities, and employers to enact admissions and hiring practices that embrace diversity, equity and inclusion.
“Race plays an undeniable role in shaping the identities of and quality of life for Black Americans.
“In a society still scarred by the wounds of racial disparities, the Supreme Court has displayed a willful ignorance of our reality.
“The NAACP will not be deterred nor silenced in our fight to hold leaders and institutions accountable for their role in embracing diversity no matter what.
“This is a dark day in America. Affirmative action has been a beacon of hope for generations of Black students.”
My guess is that Democrats will use this to rally voters, once again claiming that conservatives are racists and trying to hold people of color down when that is hardly the case.
I look to people like Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who applauded the decision and does not want to see his fellow black Americans receive handouts, but instead an equal opportunity.
But Democrats thrive on racial divide… they want and need it to maintain control and power.
