Republican Rep. Ben Cline of Virginia seconded that notion, stating, “I support beginning impeachment hearings. I’ve said that to Chairman Jordan,” Cline said, referring to Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. “My constituents think it’s long overdue, and I feel as though once we lay out the facts for the American people and for my colleagues in the House, it’ll be inevitable.”
Impeaching Mayorkas has been on the table amongst Republicans since early this year. However, knowing impeachment will fall short of removing Mayorkas from office, some House Republicans have not supported the process.
Rep. @WesleyHuntTX outlines House GOP gameplan when asked about Republican action:
• Impeach Biden, AG Garland, Sec. Mayorkas, FBI Dir. Wray
• Border Security

Yet, minds have begun to change since last week as the Biden administration finally achieved its goal of ending Title 42, a Trump-era bill that allowed the expelling of illegal immigrants over Covid concerns
Now, an influx of over thousands of migrants a day are crossing into the U.S. completely overwhelming border security.
The end of Title 42, and the massive influx of border crossings have given new life to efforts to remove Mayorkas.
A spokesperson for Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, who proposed impeaching Mayorkas as far back as 2021, says the congressman is “full steam ahead,” over the idea.
The House Judiciary Committee should move immediately to impeach Mayorkas

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California has called for Mayorkas to step down. However, teh Republican Speaker has been less direct on the subject of impeachment.
The last Cabinet secretary to be impeached was William Belknap, secretary of war in the Ulysses Grant administration. He was impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate in 1876.
