While there are many things that have stood out about McDonald’s food, one of the most notable has to be the onions they put on the burgers.

They’ve always given off a distinct, not-so-real appearance, right?

And a lot of individuals have questioned whether they are real for quite some time now.

Well, a McDonald’s employee has put this question to rest, revealing a lesser-known truth about these onions.

The man posted a video of TikTok showcasing the entire process, and McDonald’s fans were shocked to discover exactly how the fast food company really prepares the onions.

Sadly the video posted by @maccasmyths has already been removed from the app. However, in the video he shows how employees use “large sliced onions” and “dehydrated onions” on burgers.

Of course, the video went viral, hitting millions of views in just a few hours time, with some users leaving negative remarks.

In the video you can see the man pouring the dried onions into a plastic tub before filling it with water and placing it in the fridge covered with a lid.

The McDonald’s employee then explains that it will take about two hours before the onions are ready, after which the mixture will be poured through a strainer to get rid of excess fluid.

Many users expressed disappointment in the company’s preparation of ingredients.

“Man we can’t even get fresh onions,” lamented one user.

while another said, “Why does it bother me that it’s tap water…”

Still, some commenters thought that other viewers were overreacting to the video. “I can’t believe dehydrated onions are what some people wanna draw the line at,” said one user.

meanwhile some were actually fans of the dehydrated onions. “Not sure why, but those onions just hit different,” said one user.
