News has broke that a 14-year-old boy was robbed at gunpoint while multiple onlookers recorded the incident on their cellphones but stood by and did nothing to offer help.
The painful occurrence unfurled around 7:50 p.m. at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 2 in New York City, New York.
The New York Police Department has unveiled video footage showing the teen being surrounded by a group and pushed against a boulder at the waterfront park.
While the altercation continued, the onlooking bystanders, some of whom recorded video of the situation, did absolutely nothing, even while a gun was put to the boy’s head and he was punished.
According to police, the group stole a debit card, cellphone, hat, IDs and the teen’s shoes right off his feet. Following the incident, the victim denied medical attention and shared that he knew some of the individuals among the group of robbers.
WNBC-TV shared a resident’s comment, in which the man stated that perhaps teens wouldn’t be mugging each other if they had more fun activities to do in their free time.
“They gotta give, uh, the kids something better to do. They need a lot of activities!” said the unknown male.
WNBC indicated that within the exact same area, another two or more muggings have occurred. One of the victims stated that the group of robbers jumped out of the bushes before taking his phone and over $700 in cash.
Since the start of the pandemic, violent crime has drastically increased in New York City. In fact, a recent poll revealed that over three-quarters of New York City residents have reported being afraid of becoming a victim of a violent crime. Not to mention over 70% of respondents are feeling even less safe in NYC now when compared to before the pandemic.
Cops are requesting the public’s help in pinpointing the suspects.
