A true legend of the game of baseball is no longer with us.

Bruce Sutter, the first non-starting pitcher to ever make the Hall of Fame, has passed away.

After a recent diagnosis of cancer, Sutter died on Thursday in hospice care.

He was 69 years old.

One of the Best

During his career, Sutter pitched for three teams.

He made it to the show with the Cubs in 1976, but was traded to the Cardinals after the 1980 season.

He played for the Cardinals from 1981 to 1984, and helped lead them to their 1982 championship season.

He wrapped up his career with the Braves, retiring in 1988.

He finished his career with 300 saves, which was 3rd on the all-time list at the time.

Sutter was elected to the MLB Hall of Fame in 2006, the first reliever to make that claim.

Those of us that got to see you play know you were truly one of the greats in the game.

Rest in peace.
