Andy Taylor of Duran Duran has been fighting cancer since 2018, but thanks to a new treatment he received recently, he is hopeful about the future.

Last year, he had to miss the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame due to his poor health and instead sent a letter expressing his gratitude for being able to survive long enough to witness such an accomplishment.

Shortly afterwards, he was contacted by a scientist who proposed a treatment that could extend his life span by five years.

Andy appeared on BBC Breakfast and spoke about this remarkable opportunity saying:

“The great irony is I missed the biggest night of my life, and within a week I was in touch with an amazing fellow called Sir Chris Evans, who is the most incredible scientist. He did my genomics, looked at it, and said, ‘There’s a treatment that can save you.’ Now this treatment, which is a nuclear medicine, Lutetium-177, is targeted so it only sees cancer cells. I had my first round of it six weeks ago — I’m in next week for another round”.

Sir Chris Evans also spoke with BBC Breakfast providing additional insight into Andy’s condition before receiving this revolutionary therapy:

“When patients like Andy Taylor have unfortunately progressed to stage four prostate cancer with secondary metastases, particularly in the bone tissue, then treatment options are limited. He’d already received some of the best medicines available and was in serious decline.”

After analyzing, “his genetic profile and specific genomic mutations present in his cancer,” he placed him on the current course of action which has given him hope for regaining his original quality of life back again.

In February, People Magazine interviewed Andy Taylor about his diagnosis where he stated, “It’s been a hell of a journey … As harsh as it is, it’s a death sentence. So you sort of walk out of the hospital in a stunned silence because you could never be prepared for … You’ve got to start from the fact that it’s a slow burn, so it’s not going to take you quickly.”

He went on explain, “If I could get a genie out of a bottle and make one wish, it’s that nobody ever has to go through what I went through.”
