Kurt Busch, one of the most successful and celebrated NASCAR drivers in recent history, announced his retirement from Cup Series racing on August 26th.
With 34 Cup Series wins under his belt, Busch left an indelible mark on the sport that will be remembered for years to come.
During a press conference at Daytona International Speedway with fellow racers and officials in attendance, including brother Kyle Busch, Kurt spoke about his decision and thanked all those who had been part of his journey.
Kurt grew up in Las Vegas as a blue-collar kid with big dreams. He ended up making good on them by becoming one of the leading drivers in NASCAR’s history.
He was especially proud to have accomplished all he did despite coming from humble beginnings.
Before bowing out gracefully, he thanked everyone who had supported him along the way – from fans to sponsors to team members – for helping him reach success both on and off the track.
Busch has not raced since suffering a concussion during a crash at Pocono Raceway earlier this year.
However, he remains active with 23XI Racing in consulting and mentorship roles.
Though not fully recovered yet, he hopes to race again someday soon – when Father Time allows it.
With 45 years under his belt already, its time for Kurt to turn the page and start a new chapter in life; although there are plenty trophies collected over the years as well as memories that can never be forgotten.
