Dameion Pickett Reveals Shocking Details of Viral Dock Fight

On August 5th, a wild brawl broke out at Riverfront Park in Montgomery, Alabama. Dameion Pickett, the dock worker at the center of the fight, was just doing his job and was in shock when he was attacked. The altercation began when people were blocking Harriott II from docking; Pickett went to move a pontoon boat but ended up being attacked instead.

“We could have docked, but we would end up hitting a couple of those boats and be responsible for it,” Pickett told ABC in his interview on “Good Morning America.

Pickett told ABC that everyone was yelling for them to move their boat and after he explained to an individual that it was his job to do so he was touched and the fight ensued.

“This man just put his hand on me. I was like … it’s my job, but I’m still defending myself at the same time. So, when he touched me, I was like, ‘It’s on,'” Pickett told ABC.

“I was still trying to get that boat in while the fight was going on. I was still telling the captain we got to get these folks here safely to this dock,” he added.

Videos of this altercation have gone viral online with memes created from these videos depicting moments such as one man swimming to Pickett’s defense and another using a folding chair as a weapon during the fight.

The fight also sparked conversations about race as participants of the brawl were divided along racial lines. Five people have been arrested in connection with this incident: four white boaters who police said were filmed hitting or shoving a Black riverboat captain pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault charges while a Black man who police said was filmed swinging a folding chair during the melee pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges.

Overall, one thing is clear – violence is never the answer and should be avoided at all costs. This incident has brought attention to issues of racism still present today and serves as an example of why we need greater understanding among all races and cultures if we are ever going to make real progress toward equality for all people across different backgrounds.
