After Israel successfully eliminated cowardly Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on Wednesday, it was confirmed that one of the two bodyguards found dead alongside him was an employee of the United Nations (UN).

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued a joint statement on Thursday with the Israel Security Agency (ISA) confirming that Sinwar had been eliminated, as initial reports were unsure whether the body was actually the Hamas leader. The report was titled: “Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Hamas terrorist organization who was responsible for planning and executing the October 7th Massacre, has been eliminated.”
According to the statement, a “year-long pursuit” of Sinwar ultimately ended on October 16 when IDF troops killed the terrorist leader “in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip.”
“Yahya Sinwar was eliminated after hiding for the past year behind the civilian population of Gaza, both above and below ground in Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip. The dozens of operations carried out by the IDF and the ISA over the last year, and in recent weeks in the area where he was eliminated, restricted Yahya Sinwar’s operational movement as he was pursued by the forces and led to his elimination,” the statement continued.
It appears that Sinwar was not the official target of the operation, as the report indicates that the IDF was only aware of “senior members of Hamas” hiding in the area, and Sinwar was only identified as one of the dead after the operation.
“IDF soldiers of the 828th Brigade (Bislach) operating in the area identified and eliminated three terrorists. After completing the process of identifying the body, it can be confirmed that Yahya Sinwar was eliminated,” the statement added.

Israeli news website Ynet also reported: “IDF forces discovered large amounts of Israeli cash and identifying documents on the terrorists’ bodies. Due to the presence of explosives and grenades, drones were initially used to examine the bodies. One of the terrorists bore a strong resemblance to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, leading troops to believe they may have killed him unintentionally, without prior intelligence. The exact location of the raid remains undisclosed for security reasons.”
Footage that reportedly shows Sinwar’s last moments was shared on social media, where he can allegedly be seen throwing a stick at an IDF drone.

After the operation, the two terrorists found dead alongside Sinwar were identified as his bodyguards, one of whom was a high-ranking official in Hamas’ National Security Office, while the other was a “teacher” employed by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
Images of the so-called teacher’s ID have been shared on social media after it was found in the rubble near his body, showing his name as “Hani H.S. Zourob Mahasen.”

This is far from shocking, as UNRWA has been facing calls for serious reform for years now, as many of its employees have been confirmed to be terrorists — including several who participated in the killing, kidnapping, and rapes perpetrated by Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023. Because of their history of terrorism and corruption, former President Donald Trump canceled U.S. funding of UNRWA, but President Joe Biden reinstated it — though Biden ultimately suspended funding again after October 7.
