Maine’s Democrat House Speaker has deleted his X account amid backlash over the censuring of a Republican lawmaker who spoke out about so-called “transgender” individuals in girls sports. That lawmaker has been barred from speaking or voting on the House floor until she apologizes for standing up for girls and women.

Maine state Rep. Laurel Libby (R) was censured on February 25 for speaking out about her state violating President Donald Trump’s executive order barring males from competing in female sports. During the hearing to censure Libby, Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau (D) refused to let her speak in her own defense and talked down to her, prompting backlash.

Apparently, the backlash hurt Fecteau’s feelings so badly that he deleted his entire X account.

Libby shared a screenshot of the deleted account in a February 27 post on X, writing: “Apparently Maine’s Speaker of the House didn’t like hearing the voices of the people… State House Speaker Ryan Fecteau has deleted his X account less than 48 hours after the Democrat Majority’s attempt to cancel me,” she wrote, ending the post with the hashtag: “#SpeakUpForGirls.”

Fecteau’s decision to delete his account comes as the majority of Americans are sick and tired of Democrats pushing to allow males to compete in female sports. Maine has been at the center of the most recent controversies over the issue, as the Democrat-run state has refused to comply with Trump’s executive order.

Libby broke the news of one story in mid-February, sharing public images on social media of a male athlete who identifies as “transgender” winning first place in the girls’ pole vaulting competition at Maine’s Class B state championship.

Even though these images were publicly available, Maine Democrats used this as an excuse to silence Libby via censuring her, claiming that she had violated House rules by sharing an image of “a high school athlete, a minor.” While Libby attempted to defend herself on the House floor, Democrats repeatedly interrupted her.

As House Speaker, Fecteau was one of the most vocal in stifling Libby’s speech.

“The chair understands that the member does not intend to submit an apology to the body,” he said to Libby during the hearing, to which she responded: “That is correct.”

“The member will be in violation of House rule 401, part 11; the member will not be allowed to cast a vote or speak on the floor until the member has come back into compliance with House rule 401, part 11,” Fecteau stated. “The member may return to her seat.”

However, Libby has refused to be silenced, as has continued to speak out about the issue on social media.

“The Maine Democrat Majority has just moved to censure me, for speaking out against their failure to protect Maine girls and keep biological males out of girls’ sports,” she said. “Let me be clear: I will not be silenced and I will not allow the voices of Maine girls to be silenced.”
