House Dems Attack Teamsters Members For Supporting Trump

Dems Attack Teamsters Members For Supporting Trump

Apparently, Democrats believe that the best way to convince Teamsters members to support them is to smear them — as one House Democrat has attacked the union workers as “uninformed” for daring to support former President Donald Trump.

The Teamsters Union earlier this week announced that they would not be endorsing a presidential candidate in the 2024 race, even though internal polling showed that a whopping 59.6% of union members support Trump, while only 34% support Vice President Kamala Harris. Of course, their decision prompted backlash because of the obvious double standard, as the union noted in a statement that Harris would only need “majority support” from members to endorse her, while Trump would have needed “universal support” for an endorsement.

Regardless, the non-endorsement is especially shocking considering the Teamsters have endorsed every Democrat presidential candidate since former President Bill Clinton, meaning that Harris is the first Democrat in nearly 30 years to not receive the union’s endorsement. It appears that the internal polling from the Teamsters has shifted dramatically in the months since Harris entered the race, as the union members previously supported Biden over Trump by a margin of 44.3% to 36.3%.

Trump has treated the Teamsters’ refusal to endorse a presidential candidate as a de facto endorsement for himself, telling reporters on Wednesday: “It’s a great honor. They’re not going to endorse the Democrats. That’s a big thing!”

While Republicans are reacting positively to the non-endorsement, Democrats appear to be losing their minds over losing union support — attacking union members for daring to think for themselves.

Rep. James McGovern (D-MA), a vehemently anti-Trump congressman who consistently tries to smear Trump supporters, attacked the Teamsters members for supporting Trump — claiming that they are “misinformed or uninformed.”

“It’s clear that these workers are misinformed or uninformed about Trump’s record on labor. He is the most anti-labor president we have ever had, and his allegiance isn’t toward working people,” he claimed, according to The Washington Times. “Look at his plans for a tax cut. I mean tax cuts for rich people, but not for people in the middle class.”

McGovern wasn’t the only Democrat to react aggressively to the Teamsters’ decision, as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) also slammed the union — claiming that she was “disappointed” with Teamsters President Sean O’Brien and stating that she finds his “behavior, especially after he went out to eat at Mar a Lago with Donald Trump, to be a questionable change in his pattern.”

“At the end of the day, we know that when the Teamsters are in trouble, who do they call when they need to make sure that Teamsters pensions are bailed out?” she added. “When they need to make sure that they have a fair shake at the negotiating table? It was Sean O’Brien calling Democrats for help.”

O’Brien clapped back at Ocasio-Cortez over her comments, pointing out that Teamsters members in her own district voted “overwhelmingly” for Trump — telling her that she should probably talk to the union members in her district to find out why.

Rep. Pramilla Jayapal (D-WA) also attacked Teamsters members for supporting Trump, claiming that Democrats are responsible for saving Teamsters pensions and “fighting for union organizing.”
