A Texas high school football star was senselessly stabbed to death at a track meet by another team’s player simply for informing the boy that he had been sitting in the wrong seat.
Austin Metcalf, 17, was stabbed and died in his twin brother Hunter’s arms during a track meet at roughly 10 a.m. on April 2. According to the boy’s father, Jeff Metcalf, Austin did not know his assailant, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, at the time of the attack at the Kuykendall Stadium. The father also noted that his son had a 4.0 GPA and was MVP of Frisco ISD’s Memorial High School football team.

Just before he was murdered, Austin reportedly politely informed Anthony that he was sitting in the wrong seat. It is unclear why this provoked Anthony to stab Austin, nor is it clear how or why Anthony brought a knife to the track meet.
Jeff Metcalf spoke to a local news station about the incident.
“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” the father said. “I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney, and I could tell — they said he wasn’t breathing. I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan. I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder.”
The victim’s brother also spoke out about the horrific moment his brother was stabbed, where he held his brother in his arms as he passed away.
“I tried to whip around as fast as I could,” Hunter Metcalf told WFAA. “I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”
“He was on the right track,” Jeff Metcalf said, referring to his son Austin. “He was loved by many. He was a leader.”
“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have?” the father asked. “What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up. This is murder. You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family.”
Anthony, who is a senior at Centennial High School, has been charged with murder.
The Frisco Police Department issued a statement about the murder, writing that the department “grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain. The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time.”
A GoFundMe page was created to help Metcalf’s family.
The mainstream media has been particularly quiet about the incident, with only a few outlets covering the story — the majority of which conveniently left out the fact that the murderer was black and the victim was white. YouTube host Steven Crowder called this out in a video soon after the incident, pointing out the double standard — as the story would be front page news and there would be widespread protests if the races of the victim and perpetrator were swapped:
