Authorities have confirmed the death of an ex-employee of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo after he had been ordered out of a Lyft and then suddenly struck by a car.
The 43-year-old man identified as Sid Wolf was hit on Coastal Highway when the Lyft driver had stopped in the left lane and told Wolf and his friends to exit the vehicle.
Wolf had ordered a Lyft with his friends around 1:45 a.m. to be picked up at Dewey Beach and transported to a residence in Bethany Beach.
During the trip, a “disagreement ensued” between the Lyft driver and the group to which the driver “terminated the ride and stopped in the middle of the southbound left lane and ordered all six passengers vacate the vehicle,” according to the report.
Not long after Wolf had exited the vehicle did a Honda Pilot strike him in an attempt to change lanes to avoid the stopped SUV.
The other remaining passengers were unharmed, however authorities did pronounce Wolf dead at the scene, while the 27-year-old Lyft driver was still present.
In a statement, Lyft said that it was “heartbroken by this incident.”
“Our hearts are with Mr. Wolf’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we’ve reached out to offer our support. We have permanently removed the driver from the Lyft community and are assisting law enforcement with their investigation,” the company said.
Cuomo mourned his former senior policy adviser in a tweet:
“Shocked & saddened to hear this tragic news,” Cuomo tweeted about his former senior policy adviser. “Sid was a phenomenal public servant who worked relentlessly for the betterment of all NY’ers.”
