Harris Scare at Joint Base Andrews

Kamala Harris and her consort Doug Emhoff had a scare at Joint Base Andrews Sunday night. Only moments after Air Force Two touched down, a car, later confirmed as stolen, blew through the main gates. Since the driver totally disregarded orders, security popped up instant barricades which ruined the day for one interloper. His unidentified companion took off on foot and hasn’t been seen since.

Just missed Harris

Kamala Harris is thankful she wasn’t carrying any checked baggage on her quick trip to Selma, Alabama. The jaunt was meant to mark the 57th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

When she landed on the way back, things were starting to look there might be another bloody evening, right there in the air base. The timing was close. Another minute hanging around chatting and she would have been locked down inside with all the reporters.

According to statements released to the press, which aren’t all that informative, Harris had arrived on the base at 8:47 p.m. ET via Air Force Two.

Besides her domestic partner, she had some other heavy duty company on the plane with her. Secretaries Marsha Fudge, Miguel Cardona, Pete Buttigieg and Michael Regan.

Joint Base Andrews in Maryland is where they keep the fleet of 747s which are interchangeably used as Air Force One and Two, depending on who’s aboard. Shortly after the plane touched down, the security incident caught everyone by surprise. It could have been a whole lot worse. Harris is happy it wasn’t a team of well trained assassins sent to gun her down.

Then again, they could have been after Buttigieg. Our transportation secretary isn’t real popular with folks who work in the supply chain. “The Defenders handled the intense situation with discipline and calm professionalism,” Colonel Tyler Schaff declares.

Teen gunman arrested

According to the official press release, security personnel at the base “arrested one person with a weapon, while another remains at large.

The one in custody is described as a 17-year-old male and nothing more is known about him other than he had a gun. Nothing at all is known about whoever was with him. By the time they blazed in at 9 p.m. ET, Harris was already gone.

Security personnel deployed barriers to stop the intruders’ vehicle” when the driver “failed to follow commands at the base’s Main Gate.” They make it crystal clear that there was “no active shooter or any shots fired.

Even so, the base went on lockdown as they searched for the other trespasser. Pretty much the same time the vehicle was breaching security, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff lifted off on Marine Two. The White House pool reporters weren’t so lucky.

While Harris floated over the confusion on the ground, “journalists traveling with her were halted in vans during the lockdown and made to wait while security members cleared the scene.

All they found was “evidence indicating the missing suspect left the grounds.” As they told reporters Monday morning, “a full sweep of the area was conducted and evidence was found indicating the second intruder ‘departed the installation.
