If you are a soccer fan, particularly of Argentina, you are probably going to be quite happy about this.
Referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz has been removed from the referee lineup of the World Cup.
Lahoz issued a stack of yellow cards, drawing the ire of fans during the match.
Yellow Cards
During the match, Argentina blew a 2-0 lead against the Netherlands earlier.
The team rallies to win during penalty kicks, but that was not what had fans so upset.
Lahoz issued 18 yellow cards and a red card during the match.
This included a record-setting 15 yellow cards to players on the field of play.
After the match, Lionel Messi stated, “I don’t want to talk about the referee because you can’t be honest.
“If you talk they sanction you; FIFA must think about it, they can’t put a referee who isn’t up to the task for these instances.”
Spanish outlet COPE then reported that Lahoz had already left Qatar and returned to Spain.
Messi had drawn a yellow card himself.
Argentinian goalie Emiliano Martinez stated, “The referee was giving everything to them.
“He gave 10 minutes for no reason. … He just wanted them to score. He is useless.”
