House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is not happy with his fellow Republicans.
Eighteen Republican Senators and nine House members helped Democrats pass the massive $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill.
The bill was passed even though more members of the House were missing than present, thanks to House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) continuing to allow members to vote by proxy.
Changes Coming
If I were McCarthy, I would be livid too.
Just about every Republican Senator that voted for the bill cited they did not trust the House under McCarthy to be able to legislate.
After the bill passed, McCarthy stated, “For the first time in history, a bill in the House was passed without a physical quorum present—more people voted by proxy than in person.
“The omnibus will damage our country, & the blatant disregard for Article I, Section 5 of our Constitution will forever stain this Congress.”
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), who voted against the legislation, stated, “It’s an abomination.
“It’s a no good, rotten way to run your government. $6 trillion entity.
“And they want 24 hours to process this and then they want to go forward.”
The legislation was 4,155 pages long, and House members had 24 hours to vote on it, most of them not even in town.
So you tell me, how many of them printed out that legislation and actually read it before voting on it?
