A new 2022 midterm poll revealed that Republicans have a 9 point lead ahead of their Democrat counterparts in the quest to retake control of Congress in upcoming November.
Rasmussen Reports conducted the poll, which uncovered that if the elections for Congress were held present day, over 48% of likely voters would pick the selected Republican candidate, while another 39% would decide on the Democrat.
Outside of the two parties, 4% of likely voters indicated they would vote for “some other candidate” while the other 9% were unsure of their vote.
“Republicans have gained one point since last week, when they led 48%-40%. The GOP has led the Generic Congressional Ballot all year,” the pollsters indicated in their findings report.
Helping the GOP is a 17-point lead among independents and more loyalty from their own base. Additionally, the poll revealed that 86% of Republicans would vote for their party’s congressional candidate, while Democrats fell short at 78%.
“Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 44% would vote Republican and 27% would vote Democrat, while 10% would vote for some other candidate and 19% are undecided,” Rasmussen reported.
Apparently Republicans are closing the “gender gap” among voters as well, with over 47% of women identifying the Republican party as their preference, while men sit at 50%. This 3% gap used to be 6% a week ago and then 9% two weeks ago.
Rasmussen will continue to track the poll through the election and offer updates on the results on a weekly basis.
Currently, more than half of younger voters in the country are disapproving of Joe Biden’s ability to do his job as president.
The Quinnipiac Poll discovered that 54% of Americans within the 18-34 age bracket are not satisfied with Biden’s handling of the presidency, meanwhile 22% approve of Biden.
Surprisingly, the 65 plus age bracket is most likely to support the current president, with 43% approving and 53% disapproving.
