It is no secret that the Biden Administration has been trying to deflect blame for the rapid collapse of Afghanistan away from themselves and onto former President Donald Trump’s Doha Agreement with the Taliban.
However, a new report has revealed that this narrative is far from true, exposing some major lies by top officials.
In particular, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley and U.S. Secretary of State Lloyd Austin have both given false testimony in regards to whether or not the Taliban violated their part of the agreement before the withdrawal.
When asked about how much responsibility lies with former President Donald Trump’s Doha Agreement with the Taliban for what happened in Afghanistan, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley told lawmakers that although there were violations to it by the Taliban, “the one [requirement] that was met was the most important one; which was ‘do not attack us or coalition forces.’ And they did not.”
Similarly, Secretary of State Lloyd Austin stated during sworn testimony before Congress on September 28th 2021 that “the only thing that they lived up to was that they did not attack us.”
A recent book authored by Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson refutes both statements issued by Milley and Austin regarding whether or not there were any attacks against U.S troops prior to their evacuation from Kabul.
Citing Pentagon watchdog reports as well as public statements from Biden administration officials such as Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby, “Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden’s Fiasco” concluded there had indeed been several instances where Taliban fighters had attacked U.S troops prior to their withdrawal from Kabul.
For example, one report cited an instance where rockets were fired at an airport housing U.S troops while another noted an attack launched against Kandahar airbase where hundreds more soldiers were stationed at around April 7th 2021.
Despite clear evidence proving otherwise, it appears members within Joe Biden’s cabinet are still attempting to hide behind falsehoods when it comes time to own up for their failure in withdrawing US servicemen safely out of Afghanistan while also ensuring stability within its borders post-withdrawal.
This has been made even more evident after recent news broke out revealing how Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had failed in his attempt at pressuring Pakistan into cutting ties with Afghan militants before US forces left Afghan soil early May 2021.
A move which many believe could have potentially helped stabilize Afghanistan following America’s retreat.
Considering all this evidence, it is quite clear now who is really at fault here for what happened in Afghanistan, namely Joe Biden’s administration which attempted (and failed) to cover up its failures through numerous lies being spread throughout Washington DC.
