The popular children’s show “Peppa Pig” has gone woke! The illustrated show has introduced a lesbian couple to the story and it is getting a HUGE backlash.
Peppa Pig, one of the most popular TV shows for children running since May 2004, has a same-sex couple featured in its latest episode. The move comes after a 2019 petition that demanded a same-sex parent family. Many welcomed the characters while some slammed the move, with one saying, “That’s the end of the Peppa Pig phenomenon. What a shame.”
They introduced the lesbian couple in an episode called “Families.” The character Penny Polar Bear tells Peppa about her same-sex parents.
As Peppa Pig, Suzy Sheep, and Danny Dog are drawing pictures of their families, their classmate Penny Polar Bear draws a picture of two female polar bears in dresses.
“I’m Penny Polar Bear. I live with my mummy and my other mummy,” Penny says to Peppa. “One mummy is a doctor and one mummy cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti.”

Originally the Peppa Pig show premiered on British television 17 years ago. The children’s show has since become a worldwide phenomenon. Over 180 nations and 40 languages tune in to watch Peppa Pig.
CBS News reports that “the cartoon was recently sold in a $4 billion deal to U.S. toy giant Hasbro. Peppa Pig has even caught the eye of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton appeared on The Graham Norton Show in November 2019 and gushed about Peppa when she met one of the series’ voice actors.”

It’s been called a “global phenomenon,” though it has also faced some criticism for reinforcing gender stereotypes by showcasing a nuclear family structure with a dad who works and a stay-at-home mom.
A petition was first circulated in 2019 calling on the show, which has aired for nearly two decades and won three BAFTA awards, to feature same-sex parents. The request garnered nearly 25,000 signatures over the last few years.
“Children watching Peppa Pig are at an impressionable age, and excluding same-sex families will teach them that only families with either a single parent or two parents of different sexes are normal,” the petition says. “Peppa Pig is not just for entertainment, children are inevitably learning from it too.”
Following the airing of the episode, people took to Twitter to slam “Peppa Pig” for forcing children to embrace the WOKE agenda.
One questioned, “Same-sex pig couple? Who’s porking who? Sounds like they’re hamming it up…”
Another user said it’s the end of the show. The person wrote, “That’s the end of the Peppa Pig phenomenon. What a shame. Education not indoctrination.”
One individual commented by saying, “Absolutely disgusted in what you have decided to introduce on Peppa. I’m having to explain to my 4 year old daughter why one of them has 2 mums. I’m totally disgusted and she will NOT be watching it ever again. You should be bloody ashamed of yourselves.”
