21-year-old Mark Kilroy and his three friends were looking forward to a planned spring break getaway for months…so when school let out on March 11, party time had arrived.
Kilroy and his friends had booked a room at the Sheraton in South Padre Island, which is known to be a popular spring break destination right on the Texas-Mexico border.
And while the first few nights of their trip were great, that was all about to change come March 14 when Kilroy vanished.
At the time, the group of friends were walking towards a bridge that crosses the Rio Grande into the Matamoros when Kilroy was lagging a bit behind a friend who had ducked into a nearby alley to relieve himself.
When the friend returned, Kilroy had disappeared…and the next time anyone would see the college student was four weeks later, when he was found torn to pieces.
On April 1, authorities caught a low-level local drug goon who led them to a compound occupied by Los Narcos-Satanicos — i.e., the Satanic Drug Gang.
The drug goon, named Serafin Hernandez Garcia, admitted to abducting and murdering Kilroy before dismembering his body for a ritual, explaining “It was our religion, our voodoo. We did it for success. We did it for protection.”
Details reveal how the gang tortured and raped Kilroy for hours prior to his death. The leader of the gang chopped off the top of Kilroy’s skull with a machete and scooped out his brain to boil in a cauldron with other various disturbing ingredients. The gang also ripped out Kilroy’s heart before burying his body in a grave on site.
Los Narcos-Satanicos’ particular faith was “Payo Mayombe,” an African-rooted mixture of Santeria, ancient Aztec practices, Haitian-style voodoo, and devil worship.
Police ordered the gang to dig up other bodies that had mangled, resulting in 13-15 sacrifices discovered.
Authorities rounded up local gang members and sent them to Mexican prisons before commencing an international manhunt for the gang’s two overlords Adolfo de Jesus Costanzo, known as El Padrino (“The Godfather”), 26; and Sara Aldrete, known as La Bruja (“The Witch”), 24.
On May 6, police arrested Aldrete while Costanzo escaped prison by having his second in command kill him.
