Senate Dems Fed Up With Biden…He Abandoned Them

The Washington, D.C. city council’s massive overhaul of its criminal code was blocked by the Senate in a 81-14 vote.

This dramatic law was opposed by both Republicans and Democrats for fears it would ease criminal penalties in a city that has continued to face rising crime rates.

The final vote showed that only 14 Democrats were against the resolution which sought to reverse D.C. law while Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. and most other Democrats were in agreement to deny the law.

This marks the first time in more than 30 years that Congress acted to roll back Washington D.C.’s self-imposed regulations.

According to Republicans, the reality of rising crime rates forced Democrats into acceptance of the resolution.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated:

“We’re the greatest superpower nation history. This is our capital city. But local politicians have let the streets become a danger and an embarrassment.”

This massive vote comes after weeks of conflicting messages from the White House on the resolution. Many reports suggest that a vast majority of Democrats voted against the law due to feeling that Biden abandoned them after changing his mind to say that he would not veto if it landed on his desk.

In response to the White House reversal, McConnell stated:

“The White House put out a formal statement opposing us. The vast majority of House Democrats voted against us, but then President Biden had an epiphany, he reversed himself. The public pressure was so great, the president now says he wants to sign the same Republican bill that he’d previously announced he opposed.”

In expressing his disappointment in the president’s decision, Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md. stated:

“First of all, I hope the Senate would not pass it, but I think it’s pretty clear they will. And to me, the Congress should not substitute its judgment for the elected representatives of the people in the District of Columbia. I wouldn’t want them to do that for Baltimore, I don’t want them to do that for any of our other local jurisdictions.”
