Lia Thomas has been one of the more polarizing sports figures over the last few years.
Thomas is a transgender woman competing in women’s NCAA swimming events.
Prior to identifying as a woman, Thomas was competing in the men’s division and rarely made the leaderboard.
As a woman, however, Thomas was tearing it up, which is at the heart of the lawsuit brought by former University of Kentucky Swimmer Riley Gaines.
You Stole from Me
Gaines was one of the swimmers who competed against Thomas, having much success before Thomas entered her pool.
Gaines now wants compensation from Thomas for “personal distress, future financial losses resulting from fraud, and other damages.”
The suit is for $2 million.
Gaines stated, “Lia Thomas is not a brave, courageous woman who earned a national title.”
She added that Thomas is “an arrogant, cheat who stole a national title from a hardworking, deserving woman.
“The NCAA is responsible. If I was a woman working at ESPN, I would walk out. You’re spineless.
“Thomas cheated in more ways than one.
“She took a moment I worked my entire life to achieve.”
Good For Her!!!!

Thomas responded to the accusations, stating, “I earned the stalemate.
“I am referring to your fifth-place finish in a single event at the National Championships as your defining moment.
“Honey, I didn’t even know your name until yesterday.”
That, of course, is ludicrous, as Gaines has been at the forefront of fighting transgenders competing in women’s sports.
However, that response also goes to Gaines’ point about the arrogance of Thomas.
In my eyes, that response alone hurts Thomas’ trust-factor on this as we know that is a blatant lie.
I have always stated that the one aspect of the transgender movement that must be addressed was middling male athletes identifying as women simply to gain athletic success, and that is what I believe Thomas has done.
