The Georgia State Supreme Court dealt Governor Kemp and pro-lifers a serious blow.
In an unexpected turn of events, the court has reinstated legal abortions through six weeks.
Georgia’s Attorney General will appeal the ruling.
Fighting Back
Georgia, like several other red states, has decided to try to ban abortion outright with no exceptions.
Now, I am going to say something that may seem a bit controversial, but realize I am looking at this from a legal and voter perspective.
Many red states are taking a position that is probably too extreme to win over voter favor, and I think we saw this in the mid-term elections.
There is only a small minority of people in this country that want to see abortion banned completely.
Most would like to see legalized abortion with restrictions.
Somewhere in the 15 to 20 weeks as well as exceptions for rape, incest, and health dangers for the mother.
I know we have readers who are horrified by that, but the reality here is that we will never get this issue put to rest if we do not compromise.
Do we want to keep seeing this issue brought up and used by Democrats to motivate voters or do we want to get something in place that will end that as well as lock in being able to save the unborn from that point forward?
It is not an easy question, and it is not a question a lot of people even want to answer publicly, so how do we fix this?
Is the answer to make abortion a ballot measure for each state?
Do we go with something like Senator Graham (R-S.C.) to have federal legislation and codify the law?
All I know is that if they are not willing to compromise on some level, conservatives will always end up on the short end of the stick.
