The faux Jan. 6 Committee released a subpoena for testimony from former President Donald Trump at its business meeting.

Rep. Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, who despite her claim of party is no longer recognized as a Republican by the Wyoming GOP, proposed a motion after the members of the committee on Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol by Trump advocates. The board’s ballot was unanimous according to Fox News.

“We must seek the testimony under oath of January 6th’s key player,” Cheney said.

“We are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this all in motion,” she added. “Every American is entitled to those answers so we can act now to protect our republic.”

The committee was originally expected to hold a hearing on Thursday, throughout which it would not be able to take an actual vote on a subpoena. Yet an eleventh-hour change to a “business meeting” enabled the committee to vote upon a subpoena targeted at compelling Trump’s testimony.

The illegitimate committee closed its meeting after the subpoena vote.

Cheney complained that many of the key players in Trump’s effort to reverse the election pleaded the 5th before the vote to urge Trump’s statement, including Jeffrey Clark as well as Roger Stone.

Trump could fight the subpoena, which likely touches off a no-holds-barred legal battle with just over 2 months remaining in the current Congress– an extremely short duration for such a major legal dispute. If Republican politicians take over the House in the midterms it’s expected they will disband the Jan. 6 Committee on the grounds that it was constituted against the rules and conventions of the House.

Fox’s Tyler Olson observed that there were initiatives by Congress in the 1840s to subpoena previous Presidents John Tyler as well as John Quincy Adams over clandestine intelligence concerns. They never gave details.

There was a historic effort by the Committee on Un-American activities to summon former President Harry Truman after he left office. He inevitably did not comply.

According to Fox News’ Chad Pergram, if Trump does not show up or comply, the House could vote to hold him in contempt of Congress. Or, the House might even vote to hold him in inherent contempt.

Inherent contempt is where Congress does not need to engage the DOJ, but rather implements its very own authority to hold Trump responsible. “Regular contempt” would include a criminal recommendation to the DOJ for prosecution.

A spokesman for former President Trump Taylor Budowich responded to the vote, “Today, 26 days before the Midterm Elections, America is truly a nation in decline. Inflation is out of control, the crime rate is at an all time high, and the crisis at our southern border has never been worse,” Budowich said. However, instead of using their final days in power to make life for Americans any better, Democrats are doubling and tripling down on their partisan theatrics.”

He added,  “Pres Trump will not be intimidate by their meritless rhetoric or un-American actions. Trump-endorsed candidates will sweep the Midterms, and America First leadership & solutions will be restored. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

If Trump were to be taken into custody and given the media-orchestrated “perp walk,” that the left seems to crave, with the nation as divided and unstable as it is, the results could be catastrophic.
