It was not that long ago that more than 170 Democrats voted in favor of lowering penalties for violent crimes in DC.
This is a violent crime that is often committed at gunpoint.
Thankfully, the measure failed, and even Joe Biden said he would veto the law if it came across his desk.
Rep. Dan Cuellar (D-TX) voted with Republicans on the measure, and I bet he is glad that he did.
Carjacked
Cuellar had just finished parking his car when he was approached by three gunmen in the Navy Yard neighborhood.
Now, this is a pretty wealthy neighborhood, with numerous members of Congress living in the area.
Cuellar did not put up a fight, turning over his car and possession to the thugs.
His Chief of Staff, Jacob Hochberg, confirmed the carjacking.
He stated, “As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle.
“Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement.
“Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the Congressman’s vehicle.”
This now makes the 3rd Democrat member of Congress that I know of, as well as one high-ranking state Democrat official, that has been assaulted or carjacked, yet the party as a whole continues to try to lower criminal penalties for violent crimes.
It is just a shame this happened to Cuellar instead of someone like AOC, Ilhan Omar, or another member of the Squad, who dump on police and stick up for criminals all the time.
